Spicers has issued a statement tosay that Ian Doherty has stepped down as MD of Spicers UK with immediate effect.

George Adams, Chief Executive, says: "Ian has been Managing Director of Spicers UK for the last three years and has played an important role in helping Spicers respond to the challenges brought about by the economic downturn. I thank him for the contribution he has made and extend our best wishes for his future career.

"We will be announcing the appointment of a new Managing Director for Spicers UK in the near future. In the interim, the UK will report direct to me through the UK Finance Director, Andrew Cowan.

I think it is just a case of George Adams clearing the decks. The real concern is the dilution of wholesaling knowledge and empathy in working with dealers to expand market share. Ex-retailers don't usually get this.

What is happening at our wholesalers? With all the good experienced people in our trade Spicers get a plumber in! The MD of Spicers needs knowledge & experience of our trade, I totally agree with Dealer Guise there is nobody at Spicers working with dealers to expand market share. Thankfully they have still held on to the experienced Vida Barr but what happens when more good people leave? Who will be next in? Bob the Builder?!

I anxiously look forward to being proved wrong!

I have to agree with the above posts as well. It seems that both wholesalers and dealer groups don’t really do anything for the dealer. By that I mean what do they actually do which is tangible. I can’t say that when I was a member of a dealer group my sales increased because of it. So I thought why bother.

In response to Curious I would argue that its not just industry experience that is missing but that they don'y really care about individual dealers success. Dealer Guise is right. It is empathy that is missing.
