Good on spicers for geting hold of Jon Towler, so someone managed to get him out of retirements.
It’s a shame Vow could not do a deal and get some of the old team back like Jon, good heavens Alan Barclay needs all the help he can get.
I would like to know from other dealers what Vow can do next to get themselves out the doo doo there in. It’s just seems to be one thing after another stock, customer services trying to get a credit out of them is a joke, wrapide, sales terms and know the short deliveries we are getting form UPS. There has been some great improvements over the last 3 month or so but may be it need one of us the dealer to get themselves on the board and make a difference!!! I’m up for it.

Another view might be why didn't Barclay bring back 'Smoothe' Towler? Perhaps he knows something we don't? What possible good apart from old competitive information can turncoat Towler bring?

Are Spicers really innovating by bringing someone in who has been out of the loop for some time?

Is now the time for innovation though? surely what dealers want right now is someone at the helm who knows the industries and dealers concerns and interests!

I think Spicers new 'wholesaler' team understand dealers. The real need is to understand the users. Currently dealers and buyers have a close bond. Dealers need help reaching beyond the buyers to users.

I hope Spicers invest in personalised emarketing across broadline business supplies and drop their buying mentality

Yes your right “Dealer Guise” turn coat that was what I was thinking don’t think there is any competitive advantage I think Spicers can wipe the floor hands down with Vow.
“Truth Hurts” I think Jon is long in the tooth to know how the corporate bubble works and I think he will add value to spicers but along with Vow they need to make changes.

Long in the tooth?!? The guy is merely 40 years old!!

He holds the record for being the most promoted person at Kingfield Heath, he worked his way up through the ranks and as such became incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of the business but also, of the industry.

He was also instrumental in the development of Arrow, which of course, even in today's climate, is the only thing that differentiates VOW from Spicers - Spicers can't currently compete logistically against VOW when they're on form (note that I say WHEN they're on form!). If Jon can use any of that experience to improve operations at Spicers, they'll be storming.

The loss of Jon Towler was the worst thing that ever happened to KFH, it signalled the move of a lot of key staff within the company - a lot of whom would be experienced, dedicated and knowledgeable enough to make a significant difference to VOW’s current position.

I total agree “ex-op” and spicers could do with a big look at the distribution network as it seems bit old hat. Where there is change there are problem and vow are making slow headway but I think need to make more drastic dictions with regard to the supply chain and a new focus where the dealer sits in the BIG Plain of the wholesaler.
