Latest sales results from Amazon and Tesco show that they are both taking chunks out of OP market from resellers.
Open webstore browse'n buy experience, convenient destinations for new start=up businesses plus efficient delivery makes them a powerful option for business users.

I think you've hit the nail on the head re: browse'n buy experience. Although I think it falls more down to the professional appearance than the experience.
If a business lands on Tesco or Amazons web page then they feel confident in the buying power of that company to provide cheap prices and they feel re-assured that because they're professional companies that they will deliver reliably too.
Question is are Tescos and Amazon good online dealers? or are they just picking up business from dealers who aren't doing a good job online?

I don't think buying power comes into it. It is the 24/7 open access 'browse and buy' experience. Both Tesco's and Amazon are serious SME players and shift more basic office supples than Staples.

I've tried to resist posting a reply since I saw the thread on Tuesday . . . . with it being Friday afternoon my resolve has weakened so here I go.
Dealer Guise - I am obviously biased and I believe that dealers have to embrace the internet as THE sales channel of the future.
There is nothing to stop any dealer from doing it on their own – build a website, optimise it to be found on Google then implement and manage the marketing campaigns to ensure the site ranks high enough on the search engines to be found by browsers for office products.
From my (totally biased) seat in the Superstat offices I think TheSupermarketOnline.com solution is a far better way for independent dealers to efficiently and effectively compete in this growing market while keeping the costs to a manageable level.

Any independent dealer can compete with the likes of Amazon & Euroffice on Google.
You need a good ecommerce system with a proven track record in results on Google..
That's the great thing about the internet. The results don't lie. No matter how great a software company will tell you that their product is with Google - a simple search will tell the truth.

wow seeing as Chris has taken the lead with a bit of blatant advertising may I follow.........
As an ex independent dealer of 14 years myself I totally agree with Chris about dealers embracing the internet. I also think if you can make a margin why not have an Amazon/Ebay shop as well as your own solution? Add links to your own site from other sites you latch on to as well.
Anyhoo on to the blatant stuff.....
Our product webstore (others are available...) offers easy SEO (search engine optimisation) management tools but most importantly allows the dealer to retain complete control of their identity and pricing. You also get the benefit of seamless linking into the back office to avoid any duplication of data if required.
If only I could add a jingle!
Calling Evolution and Netalogue, your turn guys ;-)

No need to 'call' I've already pointed out the fact that when it comes to the topic in hand (SEO and Google results) 'spiel' is null and void and the search engine results will show what solution has the best 'SEO Tools' ;)
I do think it's for the benefit of these forums that unless a blatent question is asked. That advertising is kept to a minimum. After all this is Dealer Support, and not Supplier Support. If dealers see suppliers flogging their worth everytime they visit I'm sure it will decrease the frequency in which they view.

Consider me well and truly chastised Andy, I totally agree and believe this is a great medium for dealers which I would hate to see in decline.
I hope my 'advertising' was taken by readers in the jovial way it was written, however will refrain from any mention of how great....... (beeeeep)...... and take over the world!
