How do you measure success if you are a supplier
I am told last weeks Office Club get togeteher amounted to 34 Suppliers and app 40 Dealer members to my mind this does not count as success
Last year Office Point/Office Star cancelled because of lack of interest, be interesting to see next weeks figures or will the press say once again it was "a roaring success"

On another matter
RRP
Are the big to being over greedy in setting the retails to high
I endorse what was said by Pilot don't over do it

How can the dealer pass on increases see Esselte article last month, when VOW and Spicers create an inflaterd RRP?

Regarding RRP's, the so called big (I assume) manufacturers are not being greedy when setting RRP's. Wholesalers demand no erosion of their margin when a manufacturer increases their cost price. So for 2009, watch out for some substantial increases as manufacturers are forced to pass on price increase due to increases in cost of goods and also the big shifts in currency fluctuations. When GBP is strong they reap the rewards and when its weak, its "what are you going to do to protect our margin". 2009 here we come

The real bad boys when it comes to high RRP's are of course Vow and Spicers who demand on average 70% off RRP off suppliers then charge high SOFT Monies in most cases double digit's What of course they appear to miss is the fact that these high demands in todays hard times will drive a business to the wall Then they have a problem with introducing new suppliers in their place and into a catalogue which will give the dealer problems because they will not be selling like for like Come on wholesalers don't be greedy give suppliers a chance and cut your costs in other ways like the retro payments to groups now that's a saving to the suppliers

Reply to The insider As a member of a group should head office not tell me the amounts they receive from suppliers and wholesalers so I get a slice of the cake (retro ckeque) after all without my orders the retro whould not be forthcoming

Reply to Dealer: Of course your dealer group head office is not going to tell you the rebates they get from Suppliers and wholesalers. Unless you are 100% member owned then the group is there to make money and lots of it. Next time you visit some of the largest and high profile groups HQ's take a look in the car park and see what the directors are driving. Who do you think is paying for that? Members and manufacturers. Reply to "The Insider": Hello, "average of 70% of RRP" ....maybe 5 years ago, they are much greedier now. Change the word "will" to HAVE driven businesses to the wall, how soon we forget the likes of Hago, Shawcross, Dahle, Settons, Jet, Jones Clifton...the list goes on. All gone to administration and sold for a pittance. There a at least half a dozen well know second tier manufacturers on the brink who will either fold or 'merge' with other manufactureres.
