Challenges its Viking-supplied MP

Two office supplies dealers from North Wales were "livid" to discover their local MP Chris Ruane used a mail order company to buy his stationery, reports the Rhyl Journal.

Paul and Peter Bibby, owners of Kimnel Paper Supplies in Rhyl, North Wales, looked at their MP's expenses when they were published last week and despite their retail shop being less than one mile from Ruane's office, they were not considered as a supplier.

Peter Bibby even said that he and his brother were in the same school as the MP, had voted for him and always gave him their latest company catalogue.

He commented: "Even if he doesn't buy from us he should deal with somebody from the area. We can compete with Viking and a lot of the goods we have are cheaper and we can do the same day delivery because we are so close to his office."

According to the published expenses reported, Ruane had spent at least £1,400 with the mail order company but had also spent more than £6,000 with a Rhyl supplier.

He told the Journal that he would always try to use a local business "whenever possible". "However, in terms of cost and deliverability Viking is considered to be one of the best in the country for stationery supplies," said Ruane. "If there is a local company which can match Viking, then I would be more than happy to consider them."
