Pre budget report is good news for small businesses

The Chancellor's Pre Budget Report is encouraging for small businesses and will promote entrepreneurial growth, says one SME business leader.

Jim Watson, MD of Shred Easy, said: "The Report stated that the expected increase in the rate of corporation tax for small firms will be deferred.

"The Chancellor also announced that investment in green technologies will continue through the harsh economic times... We're pleased the government has recognised the importance of continued investment.

"However he also said that will impose a 50pence per month tax on phone landlines to fund the rolling out high speed broadband to most communities in Britain. Telephones are integral to businesses that deal with customers and negotiate with new clients everyday. This relatively modest charge will promote a vastly improved service.

"As an SME owner I was comforted by Mr Darling's confidence in the economy, his forecast of a 3.5% growth in 2011 remains unchanged. It looks like there is a ray of sunshine in our economic future."
